Course Offerings We offer a choice program in which we allow students to choose the activities in which they would like to participate. Students are also required to complete four units that are based on the physical education frameworks for their grade level. Freshman focus is on team sports and Sophomore focus is on individual and dual sports. In addition to these requirements, reading and writing in physical education is also enforced. Students are also required to complete two writing assignment projects that consist of summary writing and working on their notetaking and writing strategies by learning how to implement graphic organizers.
Graduation Requirements Two years of Physical Education
Choice Program We really strive for increased participation and have found that allowing the students to have some choice in the activities has aided in our success as well as making Physical Education a more positive experience in the students' education. In addition to the basic team, dual, and individual sports, Del Mar also offers activities such as pilates, yoga, step aerobics, water aerobics, ultimate frisbee, golf, lacrosse, orienteering, etc. and we are always striving to add more activities to our changing curriculum.

Chef Don
Child Development: Students plan for, set up, and run their own preschool here at Del Mar. There are usually about sixteen children from ages three to five. Students teach in their own preschool from February through May.

Careers with Children: Students go to local elementary schools two days per week to work as assistant teachers during class time. They get to choose which grade they want to work in and choose between several elementary schools. This is a two period class during fourth and fifth periods. Students return to Del Mar in time for lunch. They earn credit and job experience which is excellent for their college applications and their future careers.

Foods I / II: These courses focus on cooking skills with an emphasis on laboratory experiences, demonstrations, lectures, and skill building exercises providing a high activity-based format for culinary learning. In addition to cooking skills, students are given practical, real-life restaurant simulations to make informed culinary decisions. At the end of these courses, Students-Chefs take home a culinary repertiore. These courses are designed for the more serious student wishing to explore a career in foodservice and hospitality. More advanced cooking skills are taught, which may include the preparation of catered events.
Information The Home Economics and Technology Department is housed in a beautiful new facility right off the quad. There is a new, greatly enlarged foods room and a second classroom for Child Development, Fashion Workshop, and Careers with Children.
