Journalism

This elective course offers a variety of experiences that teach students how to produce the print and/or online versions of a school newspaper. The course develops skills in news and feature writing, editing, layout, and desktop publishing and improves the students' writing, mechanics, structure, and style. The integration of photography, artwork, and advertising round out the curriculum of this course.

The Del Mar Journalism Program seeks to establish a multimedia journalistic platform where students will be trained to consider journalism as informed by culture, politics, the law, literature, economics, history, and society at large. The goal is for students to work on technology skills, writing skills, reading skills, speaking skills, photography skills and to interact with the Del Mar High School community as well as the community at large.  Good journalism fosters and improves learning and our community. Lastly, this course involves leadership. It is the program's goal to allow continued growth and foster individual student's learning plans as they desire to seek leadership positions as a part of the Del Mar Perspective editor staff.
