1) HOW MUCH IB IS FOR ME? |
An approach to help ensure students have balance in their lives. This presentation is from Challenge Success - an organization out of Stanford University - that partners with schools and families to provide children with the academic, social, and emotional skills needed to succeed now and in the future.
2) AP CALCULUS AB |
Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB is primarily concerned with developing students' understanding of the concepts of calculus and providing experience with its methods and applications.
3) AP COMPUTER SCIENCE PRINCIPLES |
Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation.
4) AP GOVERNMENT |
Advanced Placement (AP) Government is an introductory college course in United States government and politics, or in comparative government and politics.
5) IB ART (HL & SL) |
IB Art HL is a two-year course, while IB Art SL is a one-year course. Both courses challenge a student’s cultural awareness, analytical problem-solving, creative thinking and application, while expanding and building upon their technical skills.
6) IB BIOLOGY (HL) |
IB Biology is a two-year course that is designed to be the equivalent of a two-semester college introductory biology course. The goals of IB Biology HL are to help students develop a conceptual framework for modern biology and an appreciation of science as a process.
7) IB ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS (SL) |
IB Environmental Systems is a one-year course that gives students an understanding of the relationship between the environment and society.
8) IB HISTORY OF THE AMERICAS (HL) |
IB History of the Americas is a two-year course that aims to promote an understanding of history as a discipline, including nature and diversity of sources, methods and interpretations.
9) IB LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE (HL) |
IB Language and Literature is a two-year course consisting of four parts: Language and Mass Communication, Literature and Critical Study, Language in the Cultural Context and Literature in Context.
10) IB LANGUAGE B - WORLD/SECOND LANGUAGE (SPANISH & FRENCH) |
IB Spanish HL is a two-year course. The objective of the course is to master the receptive, productive and interactive skills through the use of daily interaction and authentic texts in Spanish.
IB Spanish SL is a one-year course whose purpose is to foster the language acquisition process necessary for students to become proficient in the target language by improving the four languages skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
IB French SL is a one-year course that emphasizes advanced communication in all areas of the language through debates, discussions, essays, and authentic texts and situations.
11) IB MATHEMATICS - APPLICATIONS AND INTERPRETATION (SL) |
IB Mathematics - Applications and Interpretation is an advanced two-year math class offered at Del Mar and the best option for students interested in Science or Math related fields. At the end of the second year, all students will be ready for both the IB Mathematics SL external exam and the AP Calculus AB exam.
12) IB MUSIC (SL) |
IB Music is a one-year course that is embedded in the existing Symphonic Band and Concert Choir courses as part of the overall curriculum. In addition to the existing course of study, the IB students will be analyzing and creating written responses based on the Medium, Melody, Harmony, Meter, Form, Style and Context of a wide variety of music from western and non-western cultures and genres.
13) IB PSYCHOLOGY (SL) |
IB Psychology is a one-year course that asks the fundamental questions of “Why do people behave the way that they do in certain situations?” and “How can people change their behaviors?” The course emphasizes historically significant research and research methodology.
14) IB SPORTS, EXERCISE AND HEALTH SCIENCE (SL) |
IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science is a one-year course that allows students to explore the concepts, theories, models and techniques that underpin each subject area and through these develop their understanding of the scientific method. Students participate in a compulsory group 4 project - a collaborative and interdisciplinary exercise providing an opportunity for students to explore scientific solutions to global questions.
15) IB THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (TOK) |
IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is an IB Diploma Core Course. TOK is a two-year course about critical thinking and inquiring into the process of knowing, rather than about learning a specific body of knowledge. The TOK course examines how we know what we claim to know. (Please review both videos for all course details.)

"Can it be that IB is for me?!" is an annual event hosted by the Del Mar IB Parent Organization, where prospective IB students and parents from Del Mar and the Community attend to learn about the IB Programme, and hear firsthand what it is like to be in IB at Del Mar from current Senior and Junior IB students. Below is the 2018 event that provides invaluable information about the academic and social aspects of taking IB courses and/or pursuing the IB Diploma.
