|8TH GRADE INFORMATION NIGHT|
High school actually starts in a student’s 8th grade year while still attending middle school. In January, Del Mar hosts 8th Grade Information Night for students and parents to visit Del Mar. Families walk through our department fair to ask questions about our different classes, and they can also attend specific presentations related to Athletics, Performing Arts, or our IB or AVID programs.
Del Mar’s 8th Grade Parent Night is usually followed up within a few weeks by counselor visits to local feeder middle schools. Counselors present overviews of the freshman year and our available courses to choose from. Students are given programming cards to take home to their parents to help them with choosing their classes.
Counselors then return a week later to meet individually with all incoming freshman to review their course selections. Counselors also use student grades to help guide conversations about which classes the students are ready for.
Del Mar offers shadow days for prospective 9th grade students. Learn more here about how and when you can visit and be a Don for a day!
|CHOOSING YOUR CLASSES|
Choose your classes wisely. Get input from current teachers and counselors. Challenge yourself by taking ICAP classes in English, Science or History. Programs such as AVID, Band, ROTC and Leadership build strong students by teaching you how to balance your time with academics and extracurricular activities.
