Counselor visits

Del Mar’s 8th Grade Parent Night is usually followed up within a few weeks by counselor visits to local feeder middle schools.  Counselors present overviews of the freshman year and our available courses to choose from. Students are given programming cards to take home to their parents to help them with choosing their classes. Counselors then return a week later to meet individually with all incoming freshman to review their course selections. Counselors also use student grades to help guide conversations about which classes the students are ready for.

Shadow days

Del Mar offers shadow days for prospective 9th grade students.  To learn how and when you can visit for a day, please refer to our webpage at: https://delmar.cuhsd.org/apps/pages/shadowdays.

Choosing your classes

Choose your classes wisely.  Get input from current teachers and counselors.  Challenge yourself by taking ICAP classes in English, Science or History.  Programs such as AVID, Band, ROTC and Leadership build strong students by teaching you how to balance your time with academics and extracurricular activities.
