Laura Hallinan, an English teacher at Del Mar High School, was named Campbell Union High School District's teacher of the year at the May 19 school board meeting.
Among the finalists for Campbell Union High School District's 2015-16 teacher of the year were Science Teacher Lyle Zaman from Boynton High, Social Science Teacher Tania Eaton from Branham High, ESL Teacher Terry Giorgetti from Campbell Adult & Community Education (CACE), Math Teacher Daniel Coonce from Westmont High, English Teacher Melissa Feucht from Prospect High, Science Teacher Denise Stephenson from Leigh High, and English Teacher Laura Hallinan from Del Mar High.
Each of the teachers was individually honored as a teacher of the year from their respective campuses after being nominated by their peers.
Hallinan has taught for seven years at Del Mar and is an active participant in various teams designed to help move the school forward such as bell schedule committee, collaboration team, and advisory group.
She is also chair of Del Mar's English Department, an International Baccalaureate coordinator, and a member of the school's Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program site team.
AVID exists to help students whose families have never attended college find a path to higher education.
