AP, IB, PSAT, SAT & ACT Testing

AP Testing

Students enrolled in AP classes may take the AP examination in May during spring semester. If students receive a score of 3, 4, or 5, four-year and community colleges may waive the equivalent course at the college level, thus awarding credit for passing AP scores.

Note: Students on Free or Reduced Lunch may receive a waiver to cover cost of fees. Please contact your School Counselor for information.

IB Testing

Students enrolled in IB classes may take the IB examination in May during spring semester. If students receive a score of 5, 6, or 7, many 4-year and community colleges may waive the equivalent course at the college level, thus awarding credit for passing IB scores. Some colleges award college credit for score of 3 or 4, but that decision varies by the institution.

Note: Please contact our IB Program Lead to learn about possible scholarship opportunities to fund IB testing costs.

PSAT, SAT & ACT Testing Information and Dates

PSAT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board.  This is a practice exam for the SAT college admittance exam. The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 are the same test, offered at different times of year.

They have these benefits in common:

● They are both great practice for the SAT because they test the same skills and knowledge as the SAT, in a way that makes sense for your grade level.
● They both provide score reports you can use to personalize your Khan Academy® SAT practice.
● These score reports also list which AP courses you should check out.

The PSAT 10 is administered in the Spring to all 10th graders free of charge. The fees are paid by Campbell Union High School District.

The PSAT/NMSQT is available to students in grades 9-11, but is strongly encouraged for 11th grade students. 11th graders who take the PSAT/NMSQT are entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Students can learn more and prepare for the PSAT by visiting the College Board website.

SAT/ACT Requirements for College Applications

At this time, the UC and CSU colleges are not requiring or considering SAT and ACT in the application process. However, many private and out of state schools still require applicants to report an SAT or ACT score as part of their application package. Students and families are encouraged to check individual schools' websites for more details on specific admission requirements.
