Principal's Message

Dear Del Mar Students and Families,

As we close out the school year, I’ve been reflecting on everything we’ve experienced together over the past ten months: moments of joy, challenge, growth, and purpose.

Whether it was the excitement of the first day of school, the energy of Spirit Weeks, the rigor of IB assessments, the creativity on display at our Multicultural Night, or the pride we felt watching seniors cross the stage, each moment was a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose.
This year, we saw students step into leadership roles, take academic risks, and support one another in ways that show just how deeply they care about themselves, each other, and their future.

We honored reclassified multilingual learners, recognized students who earned the Seal of Civic Engagement, celebrated our AVID seniors, and cheered on our seniors at Awards Night and graduation. We also celebrated our educators, new and veteran, who continue to show up with care, commitment, and belief in what students are capable of.

That philosophy lives in every system we’ve strengthened, every relationship we’ve invested in, and every structure we’ve refined to ensure that all students feel known, challenged, and supported. Whether that’s through AVID, IB, visual and performing arts, athletics, or everyday classroom instruction, it’s the alignment between people, purpose, and practice that makes this work matter.

Thank you for the role you’ve played in that. This year was not without its challenges, but through it all, we’ve continued to move forward, together.

Grades 9-11: Final Exams Schedule
Final exams begin on Tuesday, June 3. Please note the schedule above. A grab and go lunch will be served every day next week after Period 3 (Tuesday), Period 4 (Wednesday), and Period 6 (Thursday).

Students are not permitted to visit other school campuses during the school day for any reason. This includes visiting friends or siblings during their lunch or passing periods. Leaving Del Mar’s campus to go to another school—without permission and for non-school-related reasons—is considered a serious violation and may result in disciplinary action.

Let’s continue to respect our school boundaries and the safety of all campuses in our district. If you have questions about this policy, please reach out to an administrator.

Kiwanis Club Turnaround Scholarship Luncheon

On Tuesday, we celebrated four resilient and determined students who’ve overcome significant challenges to get to where they are today. These students were selected after applying for the scholarship and sharing their personal stories of challenge and determination. We’re proud to recognize their hard work and continued commitment to their futures. Congratulations to all of our honorees: Mily Angeles, Iliana Lastra, Leslie Mongoy, and Lyndsay Sanchez Mogollan (not pictured)!

AVID Senior Celebration

At this year’s AVID Senior Celebration, we had the privilege of hearing from three incredible student speakers: Bardia Golbad, Ramma Hamdela, and Ruby Aguirre. Each shared heartfelt reflections on how AVID has shaped them into the people they are today. Through their stories, they highlighted not only the academic skills they’ve built, but also the deep sense of community, confidence, and purpose they’ve found over the past four years. Their words were a powerful reminder of what’s possible when students are supported, believed in, and surrounded by people who want to see them thrive.

Celebration of the Arts

Last night’s Celebration of the Arts highlighted the talent and dedication of our performing arts students. Under the direction of Bill Burkhead and Chloe Biggs, students delivered thoughtful, dynamic performances that reflected months of preparation and collaboration. Thank you to Mr. Burkhead and Ms. Biggs for creating spaces where students can grow, take risks, and share their work with the community.

Looking Ahead

While summer is a time to rest and recharge, it’s also when we begin preparing for the year ahead. Please keep an eye out for our Del Mar Summer Letter. It will include key details about:
  • Registration and orientation dates
  • First day of school
  • Important calendar updates and contact information
In the meantime, we ask all families to complete the annual online registration process, which includes updating emergency contacts, medical information, and permissions through Aeries Data Confirmation. This step is required for all returning students and ensures a smooth start in August.

Wishing you all a safe, restful, and joyful summer. Thank you for being part of the Del Mar community.

With gratitude,
Diana Nguyen
